The 2025 Genesis Scottish Open has seen Rory McIlroy rediscover his game and joy that propelled him to three wins, including the Masters, early this season.
“It’s my first realistic chance to win after the Masters, and I’ve had a great season,” McIlroy said, who held the 54-hole lead along with Chris Gotterup, said on Saturday. “I won at Pebble. I won the Players. I said this, when you do something that you’ve been dreaming your whole life to do, it was a huge moment in my life, my career. I think I just needed that little bit of time. And to be back here for last couple weeks, and feel like I could actually digest all of it, I feel like I came to this tournament with renewed enthusiasm and excitement for the rest of the year. “
McIlroy started Sunday tied with Gotterup, but had a handful of players within arm’s reach, including Matt Fitzpatrick, Wyndham Clark, and Jake Knapp. The 2025 Genesis Scottish Open has a $9 million purse with the winner taking home a check for $1.575 million. But there’s also another prize available this weekend in Scotland.
The Genesis Scottish Open is the last leg of the Open Qualifying Series, giving the top three players not already exempt for next week’s Open Championship a ticket to Royal Portrush. Gotterup entered the day in prime position to land one of those three spots, but the other two were up for grabs with Knapp, Nicolai Hojgaard and others in pursuit.
McIlroy and Gotterup jockeyed back and forth on Sunday. But McIlroy’s putter went cold on the back nine and Gotterup made three back-nine birdies to best the Northern Irishman by two shots and secure the biggest win of his young career.
Below is a breakdown of what everyone in the field earned this week at the Renaissance Club.
